Sara Huws

shwmai!

hi there! thanks for visiting.

i’m sara. i work with rare books in cardiff and research ‘everyday’ activism.

i’m also a sport and outdoor activity advocate, working on empowerment and inclusion.

my work and passions tend to revolve around the following:

storytelling: finding interesting collections in museums and archives, then finding innovative, unusual and engaging ways to share those stories - for example through broadcasting and presenting, creative participation, R+D, digital design, walking tours and even ASMR

research: facilitating, conducting and publishing research with social purpose, inside and outside of academia - for example looking at immersive digital design for wellbeing, representation in public sculpture, and women’s civic participation during the covid-19 pandemic

encouraging participation: creating opportunities for people to get involved in something they’re passionate about, especially people who face structural or social barriers to participation - for example, co-founding the East End Women’s Museum, kickstarting the campaign for a statue of a named woman in Cardiff, and co-founding the Every Body Outdoors movement

during my career i’ve used these skills to work with diverse partners such as UEFA, Welsh Government, Amgueddfa Cymru, the AHRC, Research Libraries UK and the Mayor of London’s office - as well as numerous artists, writers and academics.

i’m an experienced broadcaster, working as a presenter and behind the camera as a consultant and researcher. i’ve held a regular opinion column yn gymraeg, publishing essays and features in english for a variety of literary and outdoors publications.

i’ve held advisory, peer review and governance positions - and thanks to my early career in heritage education, i can also cook on an open fire while wearing a full Tudor costume (if absolutely necessary).

if you’d like to discuss working together, drop me a line
